|   Name: Rēnin Marukusu Uchiha Nickname: Street Rat Age: 13 Gender: Male  Height: 5'4 Weight: 120 lbs Appearance: Rēnin Uchiha has for years been under-nourished and so up until recently his frame was small and weak. He looks like a boy just beginning to hit his growth spurt. He is skinny but with a toned muscular structure. He has freckles around his face and very pale skin. He has curly dark brown hair that remains unkept, dusty, and occasionally full of lice. The most striking thing about Rēnin's face is his deep blue eyes that are quite uncharacteristic for an Uchiha underneath it are the scarred epicanthic folds of a boy who has cried himself to sleep for years. The bags underneath his eyes are bloody and give the impression that Rēnin has just finished crying. He wears a band-aid over his nose and his cheek less out of necessity but more as a personal reminder of the hell that he came from. Rēnin Uchiha wears rags and tattered clothing befitting a street rat. He wears hand me down clothes that are stitched together from whatever was discarded from the more fortunate. It varies from day to day but every outfit carries the same hand-me-down quality. The only significant portion of his attire is a cap that he wears over his had with several small medals on it. They are badges, buttons, and pits of stars he found lying around the gutter added to his hat to give it a bit of flavor. A source of pride and style in a world of wanting.  Village: Kirigakure Character Rank: D-Rank/Genin Clan: Uchiha Element: Katon  Personality: Rēnin Uchiha's personality is split between two entities that are united in spirit but divided in practice. He is a borderline schizophrenic that has developed two personalities within a singular body. To call them "multiple" personalities would do a disservice to the necessity of discipline in being a poor young boy. While Rēnin hears the voice of another in his head it is important to note that he is well aware that it is nothing else but his own. Rēnin is the dominant personality and is usually expressed as cold and calculating. Rēnin is studious, quiet, and above all stand off-ish. He desperately seeks friendship and meaning within a world of complete suffering. He is tired of poverty and wishes to live in a world where the rich give freely to the poor. He is a theoretician more concerned with Genjutsu and Fuuinjutsu than anything else. He wishes to study the nature of man, chakra, and the various mysteries of the universe. He prefers his books and theories to confrontation and the madness of ninja life. He is not above action but sees it as an ugly consequence of man failing to understand his own true nature. This is contrasted with the deeper and darker personality that lurks within Rēnin. It is speculated that this "spirit" is a dual product of nature and nurture. A byproduct of mental illness that was grown and cultivated under the less than nurturing lifestyle of extreme poverty. It is designated by Rēnin by his middle name: Marukusu. Marukusu Uchiha or Maru for short, is the manifestation of Rēnin's rage against the world and the systems that seemed to conspire to make his life a living hell. He despises the injustice of the world and has vowed to up-end by any means necessary. No one should go hungry, No one should be cold, No one should be afraid. If Rēnin is theory then Maru is practice in the very essence of the word. He is concerned with action, the more bold the better. Maru has been known to intrude upon Rēnin's thoughts and even actions when sufficient rage has been acquired. While Rēnin prefers the subtle arts of the ninja lifestyle, Maru is loud and boisterous: Taijutsu and Ninjutsu are his weapons of choice. The two are not enemies. They inhabit the same body. Their goals are the same. Their methods differ. Maru does not envy Rēnin's control for he knows that in time the young boy will succumb to the need to make his dream world a reality. And when he does Maru will be there. Character History: Birth & The Academy - Spoiler:
Rēnin Marukusu Uchiha was born into the Uchiha Clan by a father that was a shinobi by trade. His mother had died from an illness when he was fairly young. Rēnin had a hard time with it and at the age of seven, he began to manifest anti-social tendencies. The whispering voice in his head started to grow louder and he displayed small symptoms of mental illness. Rēnin had started the Academy at 8 and was very studious for his age. He kept to himself most of the time but was able to make a few friends here and there. He shunned direct combat and preferred to study the art of psychological warfare as a means to healing his own budding affliction and exploiting the madness inherent in others. Rēnin did not have the best relationship with his father who was overworked and tired from doing so many missions. The man was a mere Chuunin and he received little respect from his peers for being so old with skills that were so undeveloped. Rēnin was proud of his father even though he never expressed it, things were rough but they got through it. Rēnin swore that he would become a powerful ninja so that he could one day take the burden off of his father's shoulders as a full fledged Jounin.
Poverty & Street Life - Spoiler:
One day when Rēnin's father was on a mission, he was captured and had his Sharingan eyes plucked out of his head. The old Chuunin was dumped at Kiri's gates utterly blind. Rēnin's father was shunned from his peers and the Clan for being so weak as to let the secret power of their Dojutsu fall into the wrong hands. The Uchiha was blacklisted and denied pension from both the village and the clan leaving. Overnight they went from middle class to complete broke and penniless. They were unable to pay rent and no one wished to help them so Rēnin and his father were cast out into the streets outside of the village. Rēnin was only 8 years old when he learned how to beg, steal, and ignore the rumbling in his stomach. They had to hustle every day in order to survive which left no time for Rēnin to learn how to be a shinobi. He dropped out of the Academy and did his best to scratch out a living on the mean streets of a small town in the Land of Water. No one respected the blind Uchiha veteran and so they made a paltry amount from pandering, the real money came in from Rēnin doing odd jobs and resorting to crime. While Rēnin was able to make money he also made a lot of enemies and so he had to quickly pick up the art of fighting once more to protect himself. The struggle for survival under the weight of crushing poverty turned Marukusu loose upon occasion. The two became intimately familiar with each other as Rēnin worked to develop a scheme and Maru labored to execute it. The injustice of peasant life was unbearable and thus it only exacerbated his mental condition.
Peasant Life & Escape from Poverty - Spoiler:
No longer wishing to drown his troubles in alcohol and opium, Rēnin's father picked himself up through sheer willpower. He earned a job in a mine, working in the darkest depths. It was dangerous and would adversely effect his health but he did not wish for his son to turn out a degenerate criminal so he toiled to hopefully save enough for them to move back into Kirigakure. Rēnin never learned exactly what his father did in the mines but whatever it was he came home to their shack looking tired and defeated. In order to pick up the slack, Rēnin quit being a small time criminal and worked in the fields as a farm hand. It was back breaking work but it developed a burning desire within him to find out what makes people poor and how best to correct it. When he wasn't working the fields Rēnin was reading whatever he could get his hands on. He wrote by candlelight and read by moonlight undetered in becoming a shinobi once more so he could fight for his own vision of justice. At the age of 12, he and his father had saved enough for him to go back to the Academy. His father could live off of charity care in an hospitable institution while Rēnin made money after graduation. It wasn't much but it was hope. Rēnin then left to re-join the Academy.
Academy Life & Graduation - Spoiler:
Rēnin spent a year in the Academy, re-learning all of the things he had learned prior. He developed an appreciation for direct combat as a means of self-defense. He received a well rounded education and while he lost many of the friends he had prior he made a few new ones. Maru's counsel while not always expressed (and sometimes suppressed) was invaluable upon occasion. The personality took control only when absolutely necessary and the extra boost of aggression proved useful during sparring matches. As soon as Rēnin graduated he worked to get his father living accommodations in the village. They live together in a small apartment in the village where the blind old man works to make a home for his younger son who is increasingly burdened with the responsibilities of ninja life. Now that he is a genin Rēnin has the ability to take his theories further and explore new solutions to the injustices he encountered in his life. However he chooses to deal with them, he knows that Maru will be there with advice...and if required action.
