D-Rank missions, D-Rank missions. Oh, how D-Rank missions were getting to be a bore. They were never interesting, never fun at all. He never got to fight, he never got to adventure, he rarely even got to leave the village, and when he did, the only reason he got to leave is he messed something up and had to go outside the village to fix it. Roku couldn’t wait until the Chuunin Exams… if he passed those, he could begin going on B-Rank missions, and maybe even A-Rank missions if he persuaded the Hokage. Those usually included some threat of combat or danger… some form of excitement.
His feet dragged as he thought about how much he truly did not want to do the D-Rank missions he was assigned for the day. But he had to do them if he wanted to be able to participate in the Chuunin Exams. They were supposed to be soon, as far as Roku knew. Apparently, they were supposed to happen when the Hokage returned to the village – wherever he was. It was at this moment that Roku glanced down at his list of things he needed to do; until now, he hadn’t checked them.
There were only two D-Rank missions today. What a relief… he’d have plenty of time to get some training in and see if he could use his new Jiton Element after that man had done the blood transfusion on him. He’d hope so, because if not, he was going to waste a lot of hours practicing and trying to figure it out. That’s a lot of hours that could have been spent learning techniques that it was actually possible for the young Genin to master. That was more power he could utilize against the Nine-Tailed Fox later on. That was important time. But today’s tasks were simple. He was to return some children who had escaped from a daycare back to where they were supposed to be and help an old lady clean her house. As boring as boring could get. What a surprise…
So, he set out. First, the children, because they could be hurt or in danger. He made his way to the daycare first where the nice, pretty girl worked. Roku had helped her in this exact instance once before and wondered if maybe she wasn’t cut out for this job. Nevertheless, he smiled as he approached her and asked how he could help. She handed him a list of children just like last time with their pictures, and Roku did the exact same thing he did last time. Except this time it was easier. Employing his Sensory Technique, Roku was able to round all the children up and return them to the daycare in a matter of minutes. The young girl, just two years older than Roku it seemed, hugged Roku and kissed him on the cheek, and he had to turn away in embarrassment before she realized just how muched he appreciated it. She handed him his pay and he went on his way.
Next, the old lady. Roku made his way to the address listed on his instructions, only to find out that the woman needed a lot more help than what was mentioned on his paper. He had to scale the house and clean the gutters, which in itself took the better part of two hours. He then had to pull the vines that had made their way up the house. And she didn’t let up. He was to weed the garden, mow the lawn, trim it, trim the hedges and trees, and repaint the house. It took all day, but when he finally finished, she treated him to milk and cookies and he was on his way.
