| Name: Liu, Jin-Xiang Nickname: Just "Jin" for short Age: 15 Gender: Male Appearance: A boy standing at five feet and five inches, with strikingly white hair and dark golden eyes. The former is usually kept a moderate length (for a male) and mostly well-maintained barring the surprising choice of style. He's not quite sure why he continues to style it as such, but it's become a habit to willingly defy gravity and the laws of physics. The latter eyes have a gentle gaze that look upon the world with a sort of ... complacency? It's rare to see them light up in enjoyment or positive emotions, only noticeably when in a state of shock (which happens distressingly often). Beyond that, the rest of his face and skin is in remarkably good condition, perpetually tanned as if he were a true native of the desert-inhabiting Sunagakure. His face is also usually decorated with a gentle smile in public so as to put people at ease. That smile usually gives way to a frown or dull non-indicative expression of suggested normalcy when no one is in sight. His body is a lean one, somewhat frail in build, but isn't completely devoid of muscle he can make use of. There are remnants of burn injuries scattered along the left side of his body, but these are mostly kept hidden out of sight by his attire. He favors loose clothing, with a striking red cloak clasped to his body at the shoulder that can enshroud his whole form like a mantle. Height: 5' 5" (165.1 cm) Weight: 138 lbs (62.6 kg) Village: Sunagakure Character Rank: D/Genin, I suppose. Clan: Not Applicable. Element: Not Available. Personality: While a hormonal teenager, Jin works hard to maintain an intelligent, compassionate demeanor. Friendly, approachable, and helpful are all traits people would describe him as, and what he aims to embody. But, it can be rather difficult to properly maintain when one is plagued by a severe mental disconnect on an emotional level with others. Recent events in his life have brought the realization about how little he cares for others, which troubles him greatly. Just because he has difficulty attributing value to a human life does not render him completely immoral or even amoral, as his own moral principles and compass remain relatively intact (peculiarly enough). He has dismissed the lurking feelings of discontent as the result of his age and internal 'biological fuckups', but they still linger. For now, the Jin that walks the streets is an honorable, respectful and knowledgeable youth who has adapted well to his home. He also despises having his time wasted, and is always in motion, either by assisting others, or broadening his own horizons (from which he derives a sense of satisfaction from). After all, time is a valuable commodity, which unfortunately also means he has a tendency to forget to eat and sleep in favor of another activity. Sadly, such activities may not include socializing, not that Jin is antisocial or disinclined to get to know another person better, but he is opposed to idly conversing. Therefore, while he maintains an amiable disposition, he will often leave or drop conversations rather quickly in favor of a more enriching activity. Contrary to his attitudes about conversation, though, he is a decent conversationalist and speaker, often a bit too precise with his use of language. However, despite these qualities and his efforts to present himself decently, he is prone to mistakes and errors which embarrass him greatly. Additionally, it is also comically easy to fluster him, often self-inflicted due to flubbing his own speaking, and immediately, perhaps too hastily, attempting to correct himself. Discussing titillating subjects is another simple method to tormenting him, as well as discussing ... well, most disgusting, filthy or unclean subjects, especially insects. He has a longstanding furious hatred and fear of insects that goes far beyond a simple 'dislike' or lack of preference for. Also incredibly fastidious (never neglecting his own personal hygiene despite forgetting other basic needs, like food ... or sleep), and prone to minor tantrums over extreme uncleanliness. Character History: - I've come here from nowhere, across the unforgiving sea.:
Though one may not immediately notice it, Jin is actually not a native to the Land of Wind. In fact, his origins come from an even more distant place, further beyond the known countries, far to the west. In this unknown territory, he was part of a smaller clan, and smaller village ... but they were forced to abandon their homes, seeking refuge deeper within the nations, primarily cross the desert into the Land of Wind. As for himself, his own family carried forth to Sunagakure no Sato, attempting and succeeding in immigrating and settling in the ninja village, thinking that the protection afforded by its military might would yield a better life for themselves, and a then infant Jin.
Jin himself rarely recalls his early childhood. It was a rather dull, uneventful time of his life, not only blessed with peace but plagued with boredom. Friendships were difficult to come by, even before the scarring incident, but many of his days were spent alone. It was here, he developed a thirst for knowledge, and a love of reading. And a fascination with the shinobi ideal.
Who were these strange entities, calling themselves ninja? They were protectors, assassins, mercenaries. They were honorable, conniving, treacherous, and loyal. So many contradictory details. So many glorious stories, cautionary tales, legends.
- Like a flood of pain, pouring down on me.:
Given his fascination, and the importance of shinobi to Suna, it was practically inevitable that he would be enrolled into the Academy. His enrollment began at the age of eight, and the time spent there were among the happiest in his life. Academia, geared towards shinobi tradition, blended with physical training was practically a perfect combination towards his interests, and such teachings cemented many of his values, both personal and social. The Academy graduation test presented little difficulty to him, both the written and practical portions. But, after his first year at the academy, while he succeeded in graduating, his latter assessment by a jounin instructor and two other graduates proved ... horrendous. It was the sting of that failure and return to the academy that fostered his desire to better himself. And, in the next year, he not only passed the graduation test with flying colors (to no one's surprise), but successfully weathered the jounin instructor's assessment.
In his tenth year of life, he now bore the honor and responsibility of being genin.
- The only thing I know for real, there will be bloodshed.:
Perhaps he had drawn too much attention to himself. Or rather, to his family. Maybe it was his desire to be a ninja, or perhaps it was the idle chatter he had provoked from his instructors about his tenacity and desire to be shinobi. Either way, he noticed a terrible change about his own home. Neighbors became more withdrawn, what few friends (opting for a civilian life) he had seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth, an increasing number of peculiar ... perhaps hateful, in retrospect, looks directed towards himself and his home.
The most subtle differences are often enough to divide humanity.
For four years, he retained his rank of genin, while the two he considered squadmates, moved on without him. They did not begrudge him for being unable to follow them though. While they may have been kids, they'd have to be some pretty fucking cruel kids to hate on someone whose entire house collapsed, their family burned alive, and their own body scarred while trapped within the roaring flames, pinned beneath the wasted wreckage of what had been home.
It was deemed a tragic accident, rather than the act of malice it more likely was ... but even his own memory is fuzzy about how it began. Was it the injury or injuries to the head he received? Was it his mind attempting to block the event out? Maybe it was just the pain and acute asphyxiation he suffered through while nearly crushed below the flaming ruins. Either way, years would pass, until his own thirteenth year, under the care of the village and treated for those injuries. What friends he knew had already left him. What comrades he had, remained sympathetic, but had moved on.
And it was to the surprise of many higher ranking-nin when he insisted on continuing being a ninja. It was not a difficult argument to make, however. His body had endured and recovered, and even if he had no formal instruction, he had taken what little he had learnt to avoid being even more feeble. So, it was decided that he would be placed with another team of graduates, somewhat ex-cadets this time, to experience what he had missed before. Although they did not get on well, due to being unfamiliar with each other, nonetheless they functioned adequately. Within the year, their performance was satisfactory enough and their own independent strength ample enough, that their instructor put forth their name for the upcoming chuunin exams.
And what exams they were. The written portion was nightmarish, but he was saved from total failure by virtue of being able to answer a single question on his own ... and successfully gathering less than a handful of others from his surroundings, without being eliminated. To his great horror, when it was revealed to be a test of their information gathering skills, he decided that perhaps he needed to broaden his skills and thinking ... after all, what had turned into a simple written exam had revealed itself to be an even greater practical test. The duplicity of it all baffled him, mortified him, and above all else, motivated him.
Unfortunately, their number was not few at all in the chuunin exams to begin with. This required a preliminary phase before the next stage. And it was here that he and his 'team' found themselves washed out. Well, less washed out and more they were near-fatally injured and he was forced to drop out on account of failing the preliminary's objectives. After that defeat, and the disbanding of his new team due to the other two reconsidering their life choices, he was alone and unable to reach the ideals he held onto. But he would not give up, no. Now he just had to work harder, become more skilled. And abandon fucking gimmicks. Deception, power, acuity, and swiftness would be his tools, not gimmicks.
- Display obedience, while never stepping out of line and blindly swear allegiance.:
While it has been a year since his failed attempt to gain the rank chuunin, his reputation has grown a tad bit. There are even younger prodigies who hold higher ranks than he, but, it is undeniable that he presents himself as a model shinobi, protective and loyal to the village and its citizens. Ruthless to all enemies, trampling them underfoot.
Though he has reservations against killing, even if that is a necessary component to his role in society, there is no question that he commits horrific violence on his enemies. And may get a bit carried away on particular individuals with a ... particular morally bankrupt character.
